DEQ seeks comment on 2024 Exceptional Events Demonstration
Accepting comments from August 15, 2025, through September 15, 2025.
The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is seeking comment on the 2024 Exceptional Events Demonstration.
In 2024, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) lowered the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for PM2.5 and will use the new standards to designate areas as attainment, nonattainment, or unclassifiable. Under the Clean Air Act, agencies can submit exceptional event demonstrations and ask that certain air quality data to be excluded from attainment calculations. DEQ is requesting the exclusion of one wildfire date in 2024 at the Nampa-Ridgecrest monitoring site.
The draft demonstration is available for review on DEQ’s website, at DEQ’s State Office (1410 N. Hilton Street, Boise, Idaho), and regional offices. Written comments will be accepted through September 15, 2025, at 5 p.m. (MDT). When submitting comments or requesting additional information, reference the 2024 Exceptional Events Demonstration title.
