Sampling, Investigation, and Cleanup

DEQ works to ensure Idaho’s land is protected for the use and enjoyment by all its citizens. When contamination occurs, DEQ’s remediation programs provide oversight and support to conduct effective investigation, sampling, and cleanup activities. The objective is to quickly identify the extent of the release and determine the necessary actions for removing the contamination or reducing its risk to human health and the environment.

Risk-Based Approach

DEQ’s programs use a site-specific and risk-based approach to investigate and cleanup contamination. The approach is dependent on the type and extent of contamination, geology and hydrology at the site, current and likely future uses of the site, and other relevant factors.
