Enforcement

If DEQ determines a violation has occurred, DEQ can issue a warning letter or a notice of violation; refer the case to the Idaho Attorney General’s office for civil or criminal enforcement; or refer the case to other relevant local, state, or federal enforcement agencies for enforcement consideration. See DEQ’s Compliance and Enforcement page for more information.

Drinking Water

Yes, DEQ can help private communities upgrade water or wastewater facilities if they operate as a community water system serving at least 15 connections or 25 year-round residents. While noncommunity water systems (transient and nontransient) may have limited funding eligibility, they can still receive technical support. Individual private wells are not eligible.

Guidance

Yes. See DEQ’s industry-specific guidance.

Waste Management

Disposal of business waste, including spent solvents, sumps, electronics, and more, may be subject to local, state, and federal requirements. See DEQ’s Common Business Waste web page for specific disposal requirements.
Hazardous waste generators are classified by the amount of hazardous waste generated in a calendar month. See DEQ’s Generator Size Categories page for classification information.

An EPA identification number is a unique number assigned to sites that allows states and EPA to track activities regulated under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. Learn how to obtain an EPA identification number in Idaho on DEQ’s website.
