DEQ seeks comment on hazardous waste storage and treatment partial permit renewal for the Materials and Fuels Complex
Accepting comments from October 8, 2025, through November 24, 2025.
The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is seeking comment on a hazardous waste storage and treatment partial permit renewal for the Materials and Fuels Complex at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL).
The facility is located in Bingham County, Idaho, and is operated by the U.S. Department of Energy and Battelle Energy Alliance. The hazardous and mixed waste management units store and treat a variety of wastes generated from past nuclear reactor operations and current nuclear reactor fuel research. The partial permit renewal was requested by the U.S. Department of Energy and sets forth procedural requirements for treatment and storage of mixed waste, and eventual closure of the units to ensure protection of human health and the environment.
The draft permit materials are available for review on DEQ’s website. Written comments will be accepted through November 24, 2025, at 5 p.m. Mountain Time. Submit comments electronically using the form below or by mail or email to:
