Public comments are one of many ways Idahoans can support informed decision-making. To provide effective comments, follow these tips:
- Reference the facility name, permit number, project, or document on which you are commenting.
- Ensure your comments address the technical and regulatory analyses of the proposed permit or project.
- Address environmental impacts of a proposed permit or project (e.g., air quality impacts associated with a draft permit).
- Use examples and provide supporting materials when appropriate.
- Offer suggestions to address a concern or solve a problem such as timing, design, etc.

Rulemaking Public Comments
Environmental rules are frequently updated and revised at DEQ. Some rule changes are mandated by the governor’s office; some are updated following required federal regulatory changes; and others are initiated by DEQ to protect human health and the environment. In all cases, public comments are encouraged.
See DEQ’s Rulemaking page to access rulemaking dockets and upcoming public comment opportunities. Further details can be found under Docket Description.
