The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is seeking comment on a draft reuse permit renewal (M-189-03) for SM Utilities, Inc (SM).
SM owns and operates a public municipal Class I wastewater treatment plant and Class C reuse facility that services a rural community 2 miles west of Lake Coeur d’Alene. The nearest city, approximately 5 miles to the west, is Worley, Idaho. SM Utilities’ reuse facility produces 0.68 million gallons of recycled water annually, which is used to irrigate 3.26 acres of grass during the growing season. There are no major changes to the facility proposed by the permittee.
The draft reuse permit establishes monitoring requirements, limits on nutrient and hydraulic loading, and conditions established by DEQ to protect public health and the environment. As part of the permitting process, the facility was also required to show that its operation would not cause public health or environmental concerns.
Written comments on the draft permit will be accepted through June 4, at 4 p.m. Pacific Time. The draft permit and staff analysis are available for public review at DEQ’s state office (1410 N. Hilton St., Boise, ID 83706), DEQ’s Coeur d’Alene Regional Office (2110 Ironwood Parkway, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814), and below under related documents.
