The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is seeking comment on a draft reuse permit renewal (M-020-06) for Sam Owen Campground.
The United States Forest Service (USFS) owns the Sam Owen Campground, which is located on the Hope Peninsula of Lake Pend Oreille in Bonner County, Idaho. The campground is served by the municipal wastewater Class II treatment, Class I wastewater collection, and Class C recycled water irrigation systems. The campground reuse facility produces approximately 0.531 million gallons of recycled water annually which is used to irrigate 6 acres of native conifer forest during the growing season.
The draft reuse permit establishes monitoring requirements, limits on nutrient and hydraulic loading, and conditions established by DEQ to protect public health and the environment. As part of the permitting process, the facility was also required to show that its operation would not cause public health or environmental concerns.
Written comments on the draft permit will be accepted through September 30, at 5 p.m. Mountain Time. The draft permit and staff analysis are available for public review at DEQ’s State Office (1410 N. Hilton St.) and below under related documents.
