Small and large quantity generators of hazardous waste are required to report the following to DEQ annually:

• Types and quantities of hazardous waste generated and shipped in the last year
• Type and quantity of waste currently stored on site
• Waste shipped and treated in Idaho or out of state

Operators of hazardous waste disposal facilities must also report annually on the types and quantities of received wastes generated in Idaho or out of state.

Reports are due to DEQ by January 31 each year using either of the following:

• Hazardous Waste Annual Reporting Application Instructional Video
• Hazardous Waste Annual Reporting application

EPA requires large quantity generators and treatment, storage, and disposal facilities (TSDF) to report biennially on the quantities, type, and management of hazardous waste generated, shipped, and received from off-site locations.

To file an Exception Report, email a signed cover letter from the hazardous waste generator or their authorized representative to hazwaste.reports@deq.idaho.gov. Include “Exception Report” and the facility’s EPA ID number in the subject line. The letter should include the following items:

• Explanation of the efforts taken to locate the hazardous waste
• Results of those efforts to locate the hazardous waste 
• Legible copy of the manifest that is missing delivery confirmation

DEQ may grant an extension for hazardous waste accumulation for a generator that cannot meet hazardous waste accumulation time limit requirements due to unforeseen, temporary, and uncontrolled circumstances. Generators must submit a hazardous waste accumulation extension request before the accumulation time limit exceedance to receive an extension and must include the following information:

• Description of the type of hazardous waste
• Date of accumulation of the waste
• Date of the time limit exceedance
• Description of circumstances surrounding the extension request
• Approaches taken to meet the accumulation time limit
• Expected date of disposal

Submit requests via email to hazwaste.reports@deq.idaho.gov. Include “Extension Request” and the facility’s EPA ID in the subject line. If the request is approved, an extension of up to 30 days may be granted on a case-by-case basis.
