The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) seeks comment on a permit to construct for Chobani Idaho, Inc.

Chobani, a mass producer of Greek yogurt and dairy and non-dairy food products, is expanding its dairy processing plant in Twin Falls, Idaho. The expansion includes plans to install five new natural gas boilers, a cooling tower, an anhydrous ammonia chiller, a water chiller, six closed loop cooling towers, and an aseptic filler. Chobani will also remove a decommissioned emergency engine.

DEQ has determined that construction and operation according to the proposed permit will not cause or significantly contribute to a violation of any ambient air quality standard and will not injure or unreasonably affect human or animal life or vegetation. DEQ has reviewed the application and completed an analysis of the information submitted by the applicant for the expansion project. Based on this analysis, DEQ proposes to issue the permit to construct to Chobani Idaho, Inc.

The application materials are available for public review at DEQ’s State Office (1410 N. Hilton Street, Boise, Idaho) and on DEQ’s website. Written comments on the draft permit and supporting materials will be accepted through December 15, at 5 p.m. MT. Submit comments electronically using the form below or by mail or email:
