Water Quality Data

The Water Quality Portal (WQP) is the EPA’s central data repository for water quality data collected within the United States and its territories. It serves as the data repository of record and is used by federal agencies and state and tribal governments. The WQP enforces a strict metadata standard to help ensure data are FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable). No account or credentials are necessary to download data from the WQP.

DEQ data are available for download from the WQP:

  • Water quality data collected statewide by DEQ’s Surface Water Bureau.
  • Data records dating back to 1992.
  • Multiple data types including physiochemistry, benthic macroinvertebrates, fish, hydrology, bacteria, and habitat.
  • Long-term monitoring projects including the Bear River, Portneuf River, Snake River, Clearwater River, Cascade Lake, and Payette Lake.
  • Data from the Beneficial Use Reconnaissance Program.*
  • Special projects such as quagga mussel invasive species response monitoring, E. coli monitoring of the South Fork Palouse River, and lake monitoring to assess reference conditions.
  • DEQ may have data that are not currently available through the WQP. To access these records, please submit a public records request.

*Certain biological parameters, including but not limited to macroinvertebrate assemblage, fish species data, and some lab results, will be publicly available approximately one year post data collection due to QA/QC processes.
