Drinking Water Operator Resources

A "drinking water operator" is defined in the Idaho Drinking Water and Wastewater Professionals Act as "any person who operates public drinking water systems, water treatment plants or other systems in order to treat water so that it is safe to drink and who holds a current Idaho water system operator license." The law requires drinking water operators to be licensed by the Board of Drinking Water and Wastewater Professionals in order to operate, offer to operate, be in responsible charge of, or to otherwise serve as operating personnel at any public drinking water system.

Interested in Becoming a Licensed Operator in Idaho?

The Idaho Board of Drinking Water and Wastewater Professionals (WWP) oversees licensing of operators in Idaho. The WWP is responsible for establishing requirements for operator licenses, determining education and continuing education requirements, setting fees, evaluating applications, and determining whether licenses should be issued. The Board has entered into an agreement with the Bureau of Occupational Licenses (IBOL) to review and recommend applications, administer examinations, collect fees, and issue operator licenses.
