DEQ seeks comment on draft permit renewal for mixed waste and debris storage and treatment at Idaho National Laboratory 

Accepting comments from March 27, 2024, through May 11, 2024. 

The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is seeking comment on a permit renewal for mixed waste and debris storage and treatment at the Idaho Nuclear Technology and Engineering Center, Waste Management Operations, located on the Idaho National Laboratory. 

The draft permit sets forth procedural requirements for treatment and storage of mixed waste and debris for ten years and provides for the eventual closure of the units to ensure protection of human health and the environment.  

Prior to approval, the public and the applicant are provided an opportunity to comment on the draft permit. The application materials are available for public review at DEQ’s State Office (1410 N. Hilton Street, Boise, Idaho) and on DEQ’s Public Comment Opportunities page. Written comments will be accepted through May 11, 2024, at 5 p.m. MDT.
