DEQ seeks comment on proposed revision to subsurface sewage disposal systems guidance manual

Tuesday, October 08, 2019

BOISE — The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is seeking public comment on proposed revisions to its guidance on how to design, construct, and operate subsurface sewage disposal systems.

The proposed revision to the Technical Guidance Manual for Individual and Subsurface Sewage Disposal Systems (TGM) addresses manufactured medium sand, initial septic tank approval, and septic tank and dosing chamber installation.

The TGM is a web-based reference document used by builders and on-site wastewater system installers to select, design, and install on-site wastewater systems to meet state requirements and by DEQ and public health districts to evaluate the site, proposed design, and construction of on-site wastewater systems.

The changes are designed to ensure the TGM reflects current public health standards.

The proposed revisions, indicated in red, are available for review on DEQ's website (download at right).

Submit written comments on the proposed revisions by Nov. 08, 2019, at 5 p.m MDT below or by mail or e-mail to:
