Prevention Success |
Air Emissions and Hazardous Waste Reduction |
Excalibur has converted from a solvent-based system to a waterborne paint system. Waterborne paints offer premium quality and significantly lower emissions of volatile organic compounds and reduce the amount of hazardous waste generated. Excalibur has seen a decline of approximately 360 pounds (48 gallons) in the amount of hazardous waste generated each year. This reduces Excalibur’s environmental footprint while creating a healthier work environment for employees. Additionally, Excalibur's paint gun wash systems use recycled solution, which reduces solvent waste by 75% or about 1,920 pounds per year and reduces disposal costs by approximately $1,440 per year. |
Water Conservation |
Excalibur practices water conservation in their car wash by filtering and recycling their used water, which reduces water use by approximately 300 gallons a year. |
Recycling and Reuse |
Shop towels are reused instead of thrown away, and cardboard and scrap metal are recycled. Approximately 4,800 pounds of cardboard are recycled each year, lowering solid waste disposal costs and sending less waste to the landfill. In addition, approximately 360 gallons of waterborne paint cleaner and solvent paint cleaner are recycled each year. |
Community Involvement |
Through their commitment to the environment, Excalibur has become a positive example in the community. They are also helping the collision repair program at Lewis and Clark State College train their collision repair students in using water-based paint coatings. |
