 Pollution Prevention Success

 Vehicle Maintenance

Child Safe Transportation performs tune-ups on their vehicles regularly, keeps tires properly inflated, and maps out their routes with a complex logistics software to assure they are achieving maximum fuel efficiency and avoiding duplicative mileage.

 Conservation

A large portion of the child car seats used by Child Safe Transportation are repurposed car seats from yard sales and second hand stores.  Each car seat is taken to Safe Kids to ensure they have not been recalled and are safe to use.  Both offices run by Child Safe Transportation are furnished with furniture that has been repurposed after being donated or purchased second hand.  All computers and monitors have been donated and refurbished for use by Child Safe Transportation and all of the children's toys in the "Kid Room" have been donated.

Child Safe Transportation purchases recycled printer cartridges and copy paper, keeps the thermostat at a reasonable level, shuts down computers and printers at night, and uses reusable plates and cups.

Reduced Air Pollution and Vehicle Miles Traveled

Child Safe Transportation transports 150 children daily, Monday through Friday, to and from school and to medical appointments as far away as Boise and Salt Lake City. The company also carries an average of 25 children each weekend in 15 passenger vans between Twin Falls and Boise, Pocatello, and the Wood River Valley. Prior to participating in this program, many divorced parents were driving to a halfway point to exchange custody of their children. From their weekend transportation alone, the company eliminates from Idaho's roadways two cars per weekend per child transported, preventing approximately 197,313 vehicle miles traveled and 188,433 pounds of pollution annually.
