About DEQ: Environmental Stewardship

As the state agency responsible for providing environmental leadership, DEQ is also responsible for setting the standard for good environmental stewardship in state government. DEQ offices have received several recognition awards for environmental stewardship for staff efforts to conserve energy and water, reduce waste, purchase environmentally preferable products, and minimize impacts from travel.

 Idaho GEMStars
In November 2002, DEQ's State Office was awarded Tier I Membership into the Idaho GEMStars Program. GEMStars is the Governor's program providing public recognition to businesses, agricultural operations, governmental agencies, school districts and others who practice and promote waste reduction and pollution prevention (P2). DEQ is the first state department to achieve this honor.

 City of Boise EnviroGuard Award
In September 2005, DEQ's State Office and Boise Regional Offices were awarded the City of Boise's EnviroGuard Pollution Prevention Award in recognition of the offices' efforts to conserve resources and prevent pollution. Boise City established the EnviroGuard Pollution Prevention Award in 1998. The award is presented to Boise businesses demonstrating notable pollution prevention efforts.
