About DEQ's Coeur d'Alene Region:

Lower Clark Fork River Subbasin

Watershed Advisory Group (WAG)

Watershed advisory groups (WAGs) provide local public input and guidance to DEQ during the development of water quality improvement plans or "Total Maximum Daily Loads" (TMDLs) for water bodies that fail to meet water quality standards. TMDLs are designed to reduce the levels of pollutants, such as bacteria and sediment, in impaired water bodies.

The Lower Clark Fork River Subbasin WAG and DEQ met from September 2005 to June 2006 to develop TMDLs for impaired water bodies in the subbasin. Link to agendas and presentations given at these meetings.

On January 19, 2007, DEQ issued a draft document entitled "Lower Clark Fork River Subbasin Assessment and Total Maximum Daily Loads." The document includes an assessment of the subbasin and a series of proposed TMDLs addressing pollution in the Lower Clark Fork River in Idaho (main stem), Cascade Creek, Dry Creek, Twin Creek, East Fork Creek, Johnson Creek, Lightning Creek, Mosquito Creek, Rattle Creek, Savage Creek, and Wellington Creek. A summary of the document and its complete text may be viewed on DEQ's Lower Clark Fork River Subbasin Assessment and Total Maximum Daily Loads Web page.

The public comment period on the document closed March 5, 2007.
