Work performed by the Scientist 2 may include but is not limited to:

Providing technical support in planning and/or designing of major scientific projects, studies, or applications;

Participate in groundwater monitoring activities with emphasis on data collection, aquifer characterization, and reporting results;

Presenting scientific and environmental data to the public, industry, other agencies, and professionals;

Preparing reports and/or maps; completing problem assessment and suggesting best management practices;

Evaluating qualitative and quantitative chemical and/or physical analyses of geological, environmental, or agricultural samples or data;

DEQ is recruiting for an IT Programmer Analyst to play a key role in advancing Idaho’s participation in the National Environmental Information Exchange Network, a partnership among states, tribes, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency designed to share data efficiently and securely over the Internet.
Ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Good knowledge of systems design using multiple technologies, platforms, and interfaces.
- Familiarity with design patterns, object-oriented programming, Internet-related technologies such as Tomcat (5.5 preferred), XML, and Web Services.
- Familiarity with development tools such as Subversion and exposure to Spring, Hibernate, Quartz (opensymphony), Velocity, and .NET.
- Proficiency in JAVA (preferably 1.5+) and SQL (Oracle and/or SQL Server preferred).
- Good meeting, communication, planning, and project management skills.
Ideal opportunity for advanced college-level Computer Information Systems major or other IT professional looking for challenging part-time work in a technologically progressive atmosphere.

DEQ is recruiting for seasonal burn coordinators to fill nine openings statewide to support the Crop Residue Burning and Smoke Management Program as follows: three (3) in Lewiston, two (2) each in Coeur d'Alene and Boise, one (1) each in Twin Falls and Pocatello. Duties include assisting the North Idaho Agricultural Smoke Analyst and the Program Agricultural Smoke Analyst in daily burn and no-burn decisions, investigations, database management, and producer education. Applicants must have a valid driver's license and ability to communicate effectively with growers, staff, the public, and other government agencies. The preferred candidate should have knowledge of agricultural crop management or biology/ecology, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Work will commence in June through October.
